A prisoner serving a life sentence for rape was mistakenly released in the US state of Georgia, CNN reported.

Munoz-Mendez was released at Rogers State Prison in Reidsville "in error" at around noon on Friday, said a Monday statement from the Georgia Department of Corrections.

Munoz-Mendes was sent to jail for rape committed in 2012, and for child molestation and rape in 2010.

The channel reports that the authorities used all the resources to search for the 31-year-old convict.
