YEREVAN. – All servicemen of Armenia who became disabled during military service will receive military pensions regardless of the period of their disability. Gemafin Gasparyan, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, said this at the November 28 sitting of the National Assembly, during the discussion of the relevant bill.
Introducing the bill, he noted, in particular, that the decision was conditioned by the July 12 ruling of the Constitutional Court. "Before, they were given disability for a period of five years, and we have had a case when a person was discharged [from the army] in 2000, but applied for disability only in 2018," the deputy minister explained. “But by law, five years later we were no longer entitled to grant military pensions. The Constitutional Court has ruled that this is contrary to the Basic Law, and now we are lifting that restriction."
The bill received a positive conclusion from the profile parliamentary committee.
