Several suspects were detained in connection with the terrorist attack in the Minsk subway on Monday, Belarusian Deputy Prosecutor General Andrei Shved said.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am reported earlier, a blast rocked Oktyabrskaya subway station in Minsk during evening rush hour Monday killing 11 people and wounding  150, 26 of them severely. The bomb was planted under a bench in the subway’s only transfer station.

Oktyabrskaya is the busiest metro station, which is located near the residence of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko. The explosive device went off as two trains were arriving at the station, where two metro lines intersect. There is one citizen of Armenia, three Russians and one Azerbaijani among the injured.

Prosecutor General’s Office of Belarus declared Minsk subway blast “an act of terrorism” and began a criminal investigation.

April 13 was announced an official day of mourning for the blast victims.

Witnesses recorded videos on mobile phones and posted on the Internet.
