The World Wildlife Fund’s regional support program for the establishment of ecological corridors in Armenia has summarized the results of its activities.

It lasted 5 years, was funded by the German government through the KfW Development Bank.

The goal of the project was to promote biodiversity conservation and sustainable land use without reducing the income of the local rural population.

The project was implemented in 26 communities of Ararat, Syunik, and Vayots Dzor provinces. Owing to small grants, several socioeconomic issues have been resolved in these communities.

For implementation of sustainable land use experience, 5 communities of Ararat, Syunik, and Vayots Dzor Provinces have signed environmental agreements for 7-10 years to implement environmental activities in 10 villages. The program has created safe corridors for the movement of animals, resulting in a significant increase in the number of leopards, bezoar goats, and gray bears.
