YEREVAN. – The National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia has revealed a case of abuse of official power by the mayor of Masis town.

According to preliminary data obtained, in 2007-2008, the Masis municipality staff and council members, acting upon the instruction of the mayor, unlawfully regarded one of the city council members as socially disadvantaged, and by donation and on the basis of a decision of the council, alienated an administrative building of 833.2 square meters to this person, then by direct sale and by another decision, alienated a 299-square-meter land to this member of the council, NSS informs Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Then, at the instruction of the mayor, the mentioned administrative area and land were donated to the persons mentioned by this person—the latter’s son, and the daughter of the former Chief of Police of Armenia.

As a result, property and land of great value belonging to Armenia has been illegally alienated, causing grave consequences.

The NSS has launched a criminal case into this incident.

An investigation is underway.
