The requirement of law enforcement agencies to the media to declassify their sources is a serious obstacle to their work, lawyer Hovhannes Khudoyan told reporters Friday.

He noted that today the pressure on the media is most often justified by the fact that some of them can spread misinformation.

“But the country's legislation provides all the necessary mechanisms by which such media can be called to order. If the publication does not go beyond insult or slander, then the media must be protected, otherwise you can go to court. The more decisions will be against the media that are engaged in slander and insult, the more it will hit their rating,” Khudoyan said.

According to media reports, the editor-in-chief of the Zhokhovurd newspaper Knar Manukyan was recently summoned for interrogation in a criminal case in connection with the publication of the testimony of some officials in the March 1 case. A special investigative service demanded to disclose the source of information.
