The Central Election Commission of Abkhazia declared March 22 the day of the president's election, Sputnik-Abkhazia correspondent reports from the Central Election Commission.

As the chair of the CEC Tamaz Gogia noted that the decision was made almost unanimously by the members of the Central Election Commission. According to CEC, proceeding from the law, re-elections allow both past and new candidates to be nominated.

The issue of electing the chair of the Central Election Commission of the country was also on the agenda, and Tamaz Gogia was re-elected by unanimous decision of the commission members.

Protests have kicked off on January 10, as opposition representatives demand the resignation of the president. On January 10, the cassation instance of the Supreme Court declared the CEC decision of the presidential elections in September illegal.

President Raul Khajimba intends to appeal the decision of the cassation board to the Presidium of the Supreme Court.
