Program providing for enhanced learning of Georgian language for non-Georgian population will be launched on the initiative of President Mikheil Saakashvili.

First Deputy Minister of Education Koka Seperteladze briefed government officials, Georgian Academy of Sciences, universities, the Institute of Linguistics with this initiative, calling on them to submit proposals, Georgia Online reports.

Majority of Armenians live in Javakhk (Georgian name – Javakheti),  part of Georgia’s southeastern Samtskhe-Javakheti province.

According to the 2002 census, 248,900 Armenians reside in Georgia against 1 million in Soviet years.
