YEREVAN. – According to the international Democracy Index 2019 report, Armenia has continued to make progress in the field of democracy. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced this at the government session today.

According to him, as per the results of 2019, Armenia received 5.54 points against the previous 4.79 and has improved its respective ranking by 17 spots, instead of 103rd, ranking 86th among 167 countries.

"So we can say that according to international indices, Armenia is the most democratic state in the region," the PM stressed.

But Pashinyan added that the aforesaid report noted that despite progress, Armenia continued to be a considered a country with a hybrid regime.

"In fact, this is also related to the problems in the judicial system [of the country]," he said. "The fate of these reforms depends on when we will overcome the scale of average countries in both spheres, and appear on the list of leading countries."

"The results of 2019 showed that the economy not only is not afraid of our reforms, but on the contrary, inspired by the reforms, shows activeness with very high rates," Nikol Pashinyan added.
