The European Court of Human Rights has condemned France for the poor conditions for keeping convicts in prison, particularly the overcrowdedness of prisons. This is stated in the decision of the European Court of Human Rights released by the Court’s press service on Thursday, reports RIA Novosti.

The European Committee of Human Rights has received the complaints of 32 convicts (29 of them are citizens of France) who are being kept in the correctional institutions of Martinique, French Polynesia and Guadeloupe. They have complained about the poor conditions, particularly the overcrowdedness of prisons and the ineffectiveness of preventive methods for legal protection.

The Court decided that France has to pay the claimants 4,000-25,000 Euros for moral damages.
