The 17-year-old Swedish eco-activist Greta Thunberg and the Fridays for the Future climate movement founded by her have again been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
The corresponding letter with the proposal to the Norwegian Nobel Committee was sent by the MPs, TASS reported referring to the TT agency.
The work that Tunberg and her movement did significantly contributed to discussing climate issues at the highest political levels, and without them this issue would not have been as relevant on the agenda, both parliamentarians say. They also believe that the climate issue is a peace issue because climate change can cause conflicts and create flows of climate refugees.
The 2019 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmedfor his initiative to resolve the cross-border conflict with Eritrea, which lasted from 1998 to 2018. More than 370 thousand Eritreans and 350 thousand Ethiopians died as a resilt of a conflict.
