YEREVAN. – The Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia has appealed the court's decision to release Karen Khachatryan—the nephew of State Revenue Committee (SRC) former chairman and ex-Minister of Finance Gagik Khachatryan—on bail. Arevik Khachatryan, Head of the Public Relations Division of the Prosecutor General's Office, confirmed this to Armenian News-NEWS.am.
According to a court ruling on January 22, Karen Khachatryan was released on a 20mn dram bail.
The National Security Service had filed a motion to extend Khachatryan's arrest for two more months, whereas his attorney had requested that he be released on bail.
Karen Khachatryan was the head of the SRC Department of Homeland Security, and he is accused of committing a large amount of misuse of funds.
His uncle, Gagik Khachatryan, is also charged in this criminal case. The motion to commute his current pretrial measure of arrest is currently being considered in court.
