YEREVAN. - Garni temple located in Armenia was awarded by UNESCO.

Garni museum in Armenia and Batir village in Palestine got 2011 Melina Mercouri International Prize (UNESCO-Greece).

The awarding ceremony will take place on May 24 in UNESCO headquarters in Paris, Armenian Foreign ministry’s press service informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Melina Mercouri International Prize is awarded for safeguarding and management of cultural landscapes. Garni is a pagan temple complex located in the Kotayk region of Armenia dating back to 1st century BC.
