Scientists claim that COVID-19 patients of European descent are three times more likely to experience smell and taste disorders, Medheal.ru reported referring to ToDay News Time.

Scientists came to such conclusions by conducting a study of health problems in people of European and Asian descent. They analyzed the data of 42 scientific studies with a medical history of over 23,000 patients. Likely, the differences are not related to COVID-19 mutations. The most likely cause may be a genetic difference between different nationalities, the experts noted.

The main signs of COVID-19 patients are chest pain, fever, as well as smell and taste disorders.

However, COVID-19 patients of Asian origin and from Africa faced such symptoms three times less often.

Only 6 to 15% of the population of these ethnic groups experienced smell and taste disorders, while Europeans and Americans of European descent suffered it in 38-43% of cases.
