Millions of people could die during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, CNN reported referring to Dr Ranieri Guerra, WHO assistant director-general for strategic initiatives.

“The comparison is with the Spanish Flu, which behaved exactly like Covid: it went down in the summer and fiercely resumed in September and October, creating 50 million deaths during the second wave,” he told Italy’s Rai TV. 

Many countries all over the world are lifting COVID-19 restrictions. In the meantime, the EU and the Schengen area plan to reopen their borders as of July 1.

There are 54 countries on the draft list of countries that will be allowed to enter the EU, Euronews reported.

According to diplomatic sources, however, there have been disagreements between the countries regarding the criteria used for the adoption of this decision, and some even claim that the COVID-19 data are not reliable in some countries.
