Turkish comedian Emre Gunsal was sentenced to three years and five months in prison for insulting prominent Turkish figures.

The verdict will go into effect if he commits another crime in the future. Gunsal will have to spend 62 days in prison for every minute of his 20-minute speech.

The comedian was detained last April for insulting the founder of modern Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, and the 13th-century poet Rumi. He said Ataturk is the most successful alcoholic in Turkey and added that Rumi was gay.
