German Bundestag member Karin Strenz has died on board a plane flying from Cuba to Germany. The statement came from Eckhardt Rehberg, a representative of a group of Bundestag MPs from the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, DW reports.
Bild newspaper had reported that Strenz, a Christian Democratic Union MP, had lost consciousness during the aforesaid flight, after which the crew had decided to make an emergency landing in Dublin. However, doctors could not save the politician's life.
In late January, the Bundestag had stripped Karin Strenz of her parliamentary immunity on charges of bribery and lobbying for Azerbaijan’s interests.
