YEREVAN.- The Armenian side is sparing no effort to improve the fight against trafficking. In fact there are some problems and we should try to eliminate them as quickly as possible, said Vahram Kajoyan, head of working group on fight against trafficking at the national council.

He noted that Armenia was left in the second group in the State Department’s report and, in this context, expectations of the Armenian side were satisfied.

“A lot of work is being done but there is still much to do. There are shortcomings and problems that should be eliminated,” he added.

If the work actively continues, Armenia may soon appear in the first group.

The main stream of sexual trafficking in Armenia is directed to Turkey and the UAE, this year’s list of countries included Germany as well.

In a State Department’s report Armenia is included in the group of states whose governments do not fully comply with the Trafficking Victims Protection Act’s (TVPA) minimum standards, but are making significant efforts to bring themselves into compliance with those standards.
