YEREVAN. - Armenian Government allocated AMD 4.675 billion ($12.6 million) for single payments for each third and subsequent child in the family, the head of Armenian Ministry of Labor and Social Issues Department of Demography Vanik Babajanyan told a press conference on Monday.
“This amount is not much indeed and we have yet a lot of work to do regarding the reproduction processes in Armenia. However, the authorities work at their best to improve the situation,” he said.
Independent expert, demographer Ruben Yeganyan mentioned that in Soviet period Armenia never faced the problem of reproduction.
“Our neighboring countries mark a process of expanded reproduction, but in Armenia it was growing slower. In his respect only Georgia shows similar trends,” said Yeganyan.
According to statistical data, 68 percent of Armenian families do not want the second child in the next three years. Only 16 percent stated the willingness to have the second child and the same number of respondents have not yet decided on the matter.
