Despite the ban on mass celebrations, which is in effect in the Apennines until January 31 in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic, many Italians still celebrated the arrival of the New Year with the traditional launch of firecrackers and fireworks, as a result of which dozens of people were injured, SkyTg24 TV reported.
The epicenter of the festive fireworks, as usual, was Naples and its environs, where, according to the latest data, nine people were injured. All in all, in the southern Italian region of Campania, 14 citizens suffered, and one of them lost an eye, and the other received a bullet in the chest, fired by an unknown person during the New Year's celebration. A 40-year-old resident of the city of Taranto lost his right arm as a result of the explosion of a defective firecracker, and a young man from the city of Ascoli Piceno was seriously injured in a similar incident.
On New Year's Eve, Italian firefighters had to make 558 visits to the scene because of the fires that arose as a result of violent celebrations. At the meeting in 2021, there were only 229 such trips.
