YEREVAN. – Armenia registered 5 cases of child trafficking since 2005. As a result six children suffered, lawyer at OSCE-supported Anti-trafficking Support and Resource Unit Davit Tumasyan said at “Children’s right for a happy childhood” space bridge between Yerevan and Moscow.

According to him, two verdicts have already been delivered. Two convicts got seven years in prison, another was sentenced to 10-years’ imprisonment. One case is under court investigation and another is in pre-investigation process.

According to the expert, children of vulnerable groups mainly become victims of trafficking. These are children from incomplete families, homeless children and those from seemingly well-to-do families, who have psychological problems.

Head of “Children Trafficking in Armenia” Tatevik Bezhanyan said the main preventive measure in kidnapping is preservation of family values.
