YEREVAN. - Instead of giving advice to neighboring states, it would be better if Turkey minded its own business and fulfilled its international commitments, Secretary of Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Eduard Sharmazanov told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“Instead of giving advice to neighbors on tolerance and responsibility, Turkey could serve an example in such kind of issues, resolving Cyprus and Kurdish issues. Calling on the Armenian leader to contribute to peace in the region, Ankara could make a move forward ratifying the Armenia-Turkey Protocols,” the MP noted. He reminded Turkish diplomats of the fact that Mount Ararat will never become “Agri Dag” and Western Armenia “Eastern Anatolia” for any generation of Armenians.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am reported earlier, in response to a student’s question concerning future borders of Armenian state and whether the Western Armenia with the Mount Ararat will ever be united to Eastern Armenia at the fifth All Armenian Olympiad of Armenian language and literature, Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan answered that everything depends on the young generation. Every generation has some goal to achieve, he added.

The current generation defended and liberated a part of Armenian land. If the future generation makes much effort then Armenia will be one of the best states in the world. Generally, the power of the state is not defined through its territory. The state should be modern, secure and prosperous. The Armenian people are able to achieve their goal. And they will if they believe, added President Sargsyan.

This statement caused Ankara’s irritation and the Turkish Foreign Ministry condemned Serzh sargsyan’s words.

“We strongly condemn the reply given by President Sargsyan to a question from a student during the Armenian language and literature competition held in Armenia on July 25 2011.

Giving advice to the youth and the next generations with a quite opposite approach and in a way that will provoke an ideology of hostility and hatred among societies is an extremely irresponsible behavior.  At a time when the quest of establishing peace has accelerated in the region, the statements Mr. Sargsyan has given without finding them harmful, indicate that he does not intend to work for peace,” the ministry said in a statement on July 26.
