YEREVAN.- The idea of early elections in Armenia gets support only of 18.7% of respondents, said Armenian sociologist Aharon Adibekyan, citing the results of survey conducted in several settlements of the republic.
A total of 41% respondents stand against early elections, a part of them consider the idea senseless, others believe it will hardly change anything.
“Therefore, it is senseless to submit the question to a referendum and spend extra money,” Adibekyan told journalists on Wednesday.
According to him, early elections may be advantageous to Prosperous Armenia Party rather than the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) which is losing public trust and role of the opposition.
He stressed that ANC’s statements regarding the deadline for early elections and promises to urge people take to the streets is a manifestation of political shortsightedness.
At the same time, sociologist said, the ruling coalition-opposition dialogue should be welcomed, and it should continue as a process of mutual concessions.
