YEREVAN. - It is hard to say how correct it is to define oppositional Armenian National Congress (ANC) activists apprehended on August 9 as political prisoners, said opposition Heritage Party MP Stepan Safaryan to a press conference on Wednesday.

“The notion of political prisoner has grown too common in Armenia. It is difficult to specify whether the apprehended activists are political prisoners. I, at least, cannot make such conclusion,” said Safaryan.

The other member of the press conference, MP from the ruling Republican Party of Armenia Artak Zakaryan agreed with Safaryan, reiterating that the term "political prisoner" is often used in Armenia in recent years.

"The notion of "political prisoner" has never existed in Armenia,” stressed the MP.
