Energy ministers of the EU have a lot of work to do, but a solution can be found that will curb speculative jumps in gas prices. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said this after a meeting with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in Athens, Reuters reported.
“There’s still more work to do for energy ministers, especially when it comes to avoiding speculative price spikes,” Scholz said after meeting Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in Athens.
Some 15 EU states, including Greece, want an EU-wide cap on gas prices, citing inflationary pressures that recent gas price hikes have put on their economies. Germany, leads a small group of states opposing a price cap.
EU energy ministers will decide at a Nov. 24 meeting whether to ask Brussels to propose a cap.
Mitsotakis said EU energy ministers need to find a solution during that meeting.
