YEREVAN. – I am against revolutions, Armenian National Assembly (NA) Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan said during a press conference held in the parliament on Tuesday.

“It is enough that we speak about revolutions. We are talking about revolutions when a mere 7 months remain for the National Assembly elections. They should try to prepare for the elections. I am altogether against revolutions,” Abrahamyan stated, openly implying the opposition Armenian National Congress. 

“Revolutions do not happen by wishes, but rather in accordance with the situation, and I do not see such revolutionary situation in Armenia. But I do accept that we have social problems, tolerance and solidarity consolidation problems. We have a Karabakh problem, a problem of relations with Turkey, and these are important for us. We need to combat corruption and not make empty statements,” Abrahamyan argued.

And in response to the remark that no problem is resolved and the situation is deteriorating in Armenia, NA speaker said: “It is correct that there is emigration. That is why we need to sit down and discuses as to the direction of our reforms. The oligarchic monopolies must be eliminated. We need concrete steps. The national Assembly is ready to provide the government each and every lever to combat oligarchic monopolies.”
