The Hurriyet Daily News reports that an ancient sarcophagus was found in Istanbul during construction work.

It was in the foundation of a demolished building. The coffin is made of carved stone. When it was opened, human bones were found inside.

Scientists estimate that the remains and the burial site are more than 2,000 years old. They date back to the Roman period.

The sarcophagus was lifted with a crane and sent to the Istanbul Archaeological Museum.
