The number of emergency incidents in the Armenian army is reducing on a yearly basis, Armenian Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan informed, after the governmental session, the protesting parents of soldiers who had died in time of peace. “Even though each number [of such incidents] is painful for us, I can publicly say that this number is reducing,” Ohanyan noted.       

He also refuted the information that 1,500 soldiers were killed in the army ever since 1994. Parents of the fallen soldiers complained to the minister, saying they were dissatisfied with the course of the court trials into the deaths of their sons.  

In his turn, Seyran Ohanyan stated that all cases will have a fair solution, and that the country’s Military Prosecutor and Deputy Minister of Defense are closely following that process.   

“There was no impunity in the army, and it does not exist today. All receive their legal punishment within the framework of the criminal case that is launched, and if they are not within the scope of a criminal case, they receive administrative penalties, up to and including dismissal from the army,” Seyran Ohanyan concluded.
