Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton discussed the situation in the Middle East and Palestine’s intention to apply to the UN with affiliation request, reported Russian Foreign Ministry on Saturday.
“On September 16, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had a telephone conversation on the initiative of the American side,” says the statement.
U.S. discouraged Palestinian leaders from trying to get membership in the UN, promising to use the right to veto. Palestinian leader plans to apply for membership next week during the session of the UN General Assembly.
