YEREVAN. – A total 3 people drowned in Armenian Sevan lake this season, Commander of the Special Rescue Team of the Armenian Ministry of Emergency Situations Samvel Mkrchtyan said on Thursday.

One of the people who drowned did not know how to swim, the other two were under the influence of alcohol. Besides, two cases of heart attack were registered in water, while 27 people were rescued.

According to the Ministry representative, most tragic incidents occur in the part of the peninsula to Gavar city. There were two public beaches in Sevan this year, and both had lifeguards. After the season is over, the positions of the lifeguards will not be eliminated. It will be reduced though.

The 2008 registered 17 cases of drowning, 9 occurred in Sevan. 20 people were rescued. 2009 registered 11 drowned people, 7 occurred in Sevan. 23 people were rescued. 2010 registered 10 drowning people, 9 occurred in Sevan. 28 people were rescued.
