YEREVAN. - According to information circulating behind governmental scenes, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan will change several officials, and, before the upcoming elections, he will also clarify the functions of a number of ruling coalition’s Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) members, 168 Zham daily writes.
“It is already known that RPA’s next congress will be convened during which the Party’s executive team will change. RPA is confident that PM Tigran Sargsyan will top the proportional list, even though there is still talk about his dismissal.
But they are not yet sure whether National Assembly Speaker Hovik Abrahamyam will head the campaign headquarters. Certain RPA members say this is because, in the American diplomats’ WikiLeaks-disclosed correspondence, Abrahamyan is characterized as a bandit figure. And if Sargsyan appoints him as head of the campaign headquarters, that would be a sign directed to international community that it should not expect fair elections this time, as well,” 168 Zham writes.
