YEREVAN. - Second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan has every moral and political right to return into politics, said the leader of Prosperous Armenia party Gagik Tsarukyan, commenting on the talks that second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan is likely to return to politics in the light of Russian PM Vladimir Putin’s nomination for presidency.

“I’m amazed that a society which celebrates the 20th anniversary of independence makes such primitive conclusions. I believe the time is right for us to feel independent, otherwise we cannot build a full-fledged statehood,” Tsarukyan said in an interview to Zham newspaper.

Putin’s return was not an unexpected event for Russian political elite. Everyone knew it was under him that Russia recovered from the deep crisis that had lasted since the 1990s. It was Putin who stopped the war in Chechnya, achieving stability in the country. As for us, I believe that his return will have a positive impact on Armenia both in terms of development of Armenian-Russian relations and in terms of the settlement of Karabakh conflict.

As for his relations with the Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, Tsarukyan said they are "in regular, business relations."

The leader of Prosperous Armenia also referred to the dialogue of authorities and the opposition Armenian National Congress.

"I believe that the country must be kept safe from disturbances. I welcome both the incumbent and the first presidents who managed to put the country’s stability above everything else and we did not repeat neither Azerbaijani nor Georgian patterns. Just recall when these countries have lost their territories."
