YEREVAN. - Armenian teachers should have higher education or 5 years of professional experience on 2018. Such amendments were offered for the law “On general education”. Hearings are held in the Parliament on Monday.
According to the Armenian Minister of Science and Education Armen Ashotyan, Armenia does not lack professionals with diploma, but it lacks qualified professionals. A total of 3000 young philologists graduate from private and public institutions annually. Armenia as a whole lacks teachers only at mountainous regions and regions close to border, whereas generally it lacks qualified professionals.
University diploma does not necessarily mean high degree of knowledge, Ashotyan stated.
Transition period in 7 years is meant for current students and recent graduates of pedagogical colleges, which will have the opportunity to choose - whether to remain in their profession and work for the preservation of pedagogical skills, the minister said.
