YEREVAN.- Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe will hold elections of new president in January 2012, member of the Armenian delegation Naira Zohrabyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Group of the European People’s Party will assume the presidency in PACE. All the group members participated in closed voting and decided to nominate Jean-Claude Mignon.

“We think that Mignon will be more consistent and will adopt unbiased stance unlike Cavusoglu. Latter’s two-year work proved that assuming his post in the European structure Cavusoglu is more guided by pushing interests of the Turkish-Azerbaijani due,” she said.

Asked about whether new chairman’s work will affect activities of sub-committee on Karabakh, Zohrabyan stressed the Armenian side is not interested in sub-committee’s work.

“Members of the Azerbaijani delegation for more than 20 minutes were exchanging words with sub-committee’s chairman Jordi Xucla i Costa and then decided to send sub-committee’s issue to PACE bureau.

Our position on this issue is known - this structure can not mediate in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as it is unaware of conflict’s history and development. Besides, one cannot be confident in impartial work of the sub-committee - in contrast to the first, headed by Lord Russell Johnston,” she concluded.
