YEREVAN. – Armenia has upcoming parliamentary elections and not presidential, it is easier to untwist the confrontation during the second case, political scientist, head of the Caucasus Institute Aleksaner Iskandaryan said at a press conference on Thursday commenting on  possible repetition of the March 1, 2008 tragic events in Yerevan in the context of the current round-day opposition rallies. 

Much time has passed from March tragic events, while the confrontation is increasing and authorities are reacting nervously. Refraining from making forecasts, Iskandaryan, however, said that the confrontation is not so deep as to repeat the March tragic events.

“Nevertheless, we have another seven months befor the elections and the opposition has talented people to untwist the situation in the state,” he added.

As a result of the confrontation between the opposition and authorities, eight demonstrators and two servicemen died on March 1, 2008 in Yerevan downtown.
