TBILISI. – French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s visit to Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan is significant as it stresses the importance of the South Caucasus for Europe, former world chess champion, current Russian oppositional politician Garry Kasparov said in Tbilisi on Thursday.

“Sarkozy was once able to stop the war in South Caucasus. However, due to inconsistency of Western politicians the international community failed to achieve the implementation of the ceasefire agreement as of August 12, 2008,” Kasparov stated.

“Besides, the West has no intention to tolerate Russia’s policy and takes measures to fully realize the agreement,” he added.

Thus, we can assume that Sarkozy’s visit is important for Georgia as new initiative may be offered, he added.

Nicolas Sarkozy will visit Armenia on Thursday. His message will be aired on the big screen in the Square of France in Yerevan.
