YEREVAN. – Two-hundred rescuers are currently working at the landslide-affected area of Armenia’s Tavush Region. The activities became more intensive on Saturday, and sixty more rescuers arrived from capital Yerevan, Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) Press Service informed.  

During the morning consultation, Minister of Emergency Situations Armen Yeritsyan urged the rescue workers to be more vigilant and careful. “The most complicated and dangerous phase of activities is starting. Together with intensive use of heavy machinery, the possibility of new landslides and  dangerous movement of the earth’s layer sharply increases,” Yeritsyan noted.    

Activities are currently underway to remove the 23rd vehicle from beneath the terrain. According to operative data, 4-5 vehicles still remain under the soil.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am informed earlier, on October 2, a landslide occurred at Tavush Region’s Vanadzor-Bagratashen section—nearby Ayrum railway station’s bridge and close to Lchkadzor village—of M6 Interstate Highway. The 130-meter-long and 60-meter-deep terrain covered the road, rendering it completely impassable. Average height of terrain covering the road is 10-15 meters.
