YEREVAN. – Shocking times passed, ruling Republican Party MP Hamlet Harutyunyan said at a press conference on Thursday commenting on the possible inner political processes in Armenia on the background of coming parliamentary elections.

Responding to the issue on the possible return of Armenian second President Robert Kocharyan into politics, MP said that his return is his right as a citizen of Armenia certified by the Constitution.  

“If Armenian first President Levon Ter-Petrosyan returned after 10 years of silence, why Kocharyan cannot return,” Harutyunyan said and added that Kocharyan’s chances are more than that of Ter-Petrosyan. 

MP also criticized the policy of oppositional Armenian National Congress (ANC).

“One cannot achieve much on theory, rallies and other motions. The political power wins, which makes efforts to solve a practical issue, establish headquarters and run agitation,” MP believes. “If ANC had a snowball effect, currently it resembles more a melting snow.” 

Harutyunyan said that there are two types of parties one that get prepared well and the other that do nothing for the elections. The first group includes Republican Party, Prosperous Party of Armenia, Orinats Yerkir, Heritage, ARF Dashnaktsutyun and ANC, whereas he rejected to dwell on parties that belong to the second group. According to him, Armenia will have some 2-3 parties in 10 years. Regarding the possibility for ANC to play on radical challenges, MP stated that it no longer will have the same effect as it occurred on March 1, 2008, where 10 people were killed. The reason is national mentality.
