During the first eight months of this year (January-August), an inflation of 3.1 percent was recorded in the consumer market of Armenia compared to the same period of the past year, the Statistical Committee of Armenia informs Armenia NEWS.am.

Moreover, the inflation in the food and non-alcoholic beverages was 1.2 percent. The prices of cigarettes and alcoholic beverages increased by 8.6 percent, and clothes and shoes—by 6.2 percent.

Utility services (natural gas, water, electricity) and some other types of fuel prices increased by 3.7 percent in the first eight months of this year, household appliances and daily home care products—by 8.9 percent, and health care—by 3.7 percent.

The transport and communication sector, however, did not record a price change.

The following sectors also became more expensive: Leisure and culture—7.3 percent, education—4.7 percent, and restaurants and hotels—7.6 percent.

The 12-month inflation in Armenia's consumer market (August 2023 compared to August 2022) was 0.2 percent, and 0.1-percent inflation was recorded compared to the previous month.

In all considered cities of Armenia, consumer prices increased by 0.1-0.4 percent in August 2023 compared to July; a relatively high inflation was recorded in Ijevan city. And in the capital Yerevan, consumer prices increased by 0.1 percent.
