Speaker of the National Assembly (NA) of  Armenia, Alen Simonyan, on Friday received a delegation led by Stephen Nix, Regional Program Director for Eurasia of the International Republican Institute (IRI), the NA informs Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Welcoming the guests, Simonyan highly appreciated the activity of IRI aimed at supporting democratic processes and valued the programs implemented by the organization aimed at continuous training of the NA Staff, parliamentary committees and improvement of working abilities. In this context, Alen Simonyan emphasized the continuity of cooperation and expressed willingness to discuss the future plans.

Stephen Nix, attaching importance to strong cooperation and the implementation of effective programs, assured that the cooperation programs with the NA of Armenia will continue for at least one year.

At the guests’ request, Alen Simonyan presented the situation in the region, and the humanitarian consequences of the blockade of the Lachin corridor by Azerbaijan.

Also, the parties touched upon the advancement of interparliamentary dialogue and parliamentary diplomacy.
