YEREVAN.- There is no ideological counteraction between Armenian parties, said Director of Caucasus Institute Alexander Iskandaryan.

“There is only opposition between groups that are perusing certain interests,” the political analyst said during the discussions in the Institute. For this reason, the parties themselves are not monolithic structures, there is struggle for influence within them.

According to him, current political situation in the country is conditioned by a type of social and economic system.

“Armenia’s economic development is at the level of an average African country. It is definitely not Somalia and Senegal but Ghana. While the level of society’s development, education, urbanization corresponds to the model of developed countries, such as Sweden. Once this system was formed, the political structure was more or less predictable. It is not a battle of ideas, but struggle of political elites,” Iskandaryan said.
