Ever since its start on October 23, 2010, the Tatev (“Wings of Tatev”) cableway in Armenia’s Syunik Region served approximately 70,000 passengers, whose more than 10 percent are residents of nearby villages who use the cable-car system free of charge, cableway’s director Tigran Ghazaryan stated during a press conference.
In his words, interest toward the cable-car system grew especially on weekends and holidays, during which the cableway transported 700-800 passengers on a daily basis.
The cable-system’s personnel and the experts from the Swiss company that built it have carried out daily technical inspections, throughout the one-year operation of the cableway, and the latter is considered to be in excellent technical condition and safe.
In addition, improvements and landscaping activities were carried out in the areas neighboring the two cable-car stations, trilingual informational and directional panels were posted, and a public bathroom will soon open at Tatev Station.
Also, a waiting area-café is ready for operation at Halidzor Station.
The cableway and the newly opened waiting area-café have 55 employees, who are residents of nearby communities and Goris city.
