YEREVAN. – Rallies of the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) cannot be considered a failure, ANC member Zoya Tadevosyan stated during a press conference on Tuesday.  

“Our activities are carried out on a fairly high level, whereas the authorities are doing everything toward a failure. These authorities and all their actions have failed,” Tadevosyan noted. But she also accepted that there is certain dissatisfaction among the people toward ANC, since they demand an exacerbation. “All objective conditions for the society to be displeased do exist. The society wants a change in power. If the authorities become broad-minded and go to early elections, there would be no clashes,” ANC member said. 

Zoya Tadevosyan also spoke about ANC’s public rally scheduled for October 28, and underscored that on that day there will be concrete declarations demanding the President’s resignation. “If he does not resign and has decided to destroy the country once and for all, let the society decide what to do,” Tadevosyan maintained.   

In his turn, Lernik Aleksanyan,  the press conference’s other speaker and ruling coalition’s Republican Party of Armenia MP, noted that the demand of the dissatisfied is not the demand of the whole society. “Why should [President] Serzh Sargsyan resign, if those who demand it constitute a small percentage? No one says there are no shortcomings. There are shortcomings in the territory of Europe itself,” Aleksanyan argued.
