YEREVAN. – Armenia’s external debt is very worrisome and risky, opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) representative, economist Vahagn Khachatryan stated during a press conference on Wednesday.
“A 100-percent, or a 120-percent external debt perhaps is not dangerous for US or France [respectively], but over 40-percent external debt is risky for Armenia,” the economist noted and added: “Taking into account that last year the [Armenian] Chamber of Control mentioned that loan servicing will become risky starting from 2013, the government encouraged to factor in that circumstance before taking loans.”
Vahagn Khachatryan also stated that if the government had thought about Armenia, it would have introduced a several-scenario budget. “The world’s economic trends are not clear,” the economist argued.
Khachatryan also noted that positive trends would be noticeable only if the rules of the game are changed.
