YEREVAN. – Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan on Saturday delivered opening remarks at a three-day symposium, which is being held at Yerevan State University and is devoted to the current challenges of global economy.

Welcoming the event’s participants, Sargsyan noted this conference is important for several reasons. “I believe this to be an important attempt at uniting the Armenian economists who carry out studies at different universities of the world, and formulating topics and issues that interest the Armenian economic mind (…) It is important to have a platform where, as a result of professional discussions, serious conclusions and recommendations would be made. The Government is interested in cooperation with such platform,” PM stated, Government Press Service informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Tigran Sargsyan subsequently presented the current trends in global economy, adding that it is necessary to jointly discuss the measures that need to be taken to resolve the possible risks and problems. “We should examine several probable action scenarios for ourselves. And in this sense, and by way of significantly reducing budget deficit and developing infrastructures, in order to withstand the possible waves of the crisis, today the Government is paying a substantial attention to the macroeconomic stability of our country,” Sargsyan maintained.

The symposium has brought together economists from Armenia and the Armenian Diaspora.
