YEREVAN. – Armenian PM Tigran Sargsyan opened Thursday’s government session with remarks commemorating the anniversary of the terrorism that occurred in the National Assembly (NA) in 1999.

Afterwards, the Government members stood a minute of silence and paid their respects to the tragedy’s victims.

A terrorist group had entered NA sessions’ hall, on October 27, 1999 and killed the country’s then-PM Vazgen Sargsyan, NA Speaker Karen Demirchyan, his two deputies, and several statesmen. The remaining MPs were kept hostage at the parliament for one day, and subsequently the criminal gang surrendered to the police. Five members of the gang were tried and sentenced to life in prison.
