YEREVAN. – Exchange rate of the US dollar continues to hit new records at NASDAQ OMX Armenia stock exchange. On Friday, the average exchange rate of $1 was AMD 379.25, and this is the first time in 2011 that the exchange rate surpassed AMD 379. The last time the dollar had gained this much value was on May 26, 2010, when $1 was AMD 379.74.       

In general, $2.35 million were sold at the stock exchange, on Friday.

As of 4 p.m. on the same day, the cash foreign currency market did not respond to this surge in the exchange rate. And this is probably because on Thursday, when no transaction was conducted at the stock exchange, the dollar gained value in the cash market. 

On Friday, Armenia’s exchange offices purchase $1 at AMD 378 and sell at AMD 380 or 381.
