YEREVAN. – A serious panic has begun at Armenian ruling coalition’s Rule of Law Party (RLP), 168 Zham daily writes.
“During his meeting with leaders of the coalition-member parties, President Serzh Sargsyan cautioned that, when preparing the pre-election lists, the names of businessmen shall not appear [in them]. According to our sources, after that, [RLP Chairman and Armenian National Security Council Secretary Arthur] Baghdasaryan found himself in a hopeless situation, since he had promised [businessmen] Eduard Madatyan (“Curly Edo”) and Arayik Hayrapetyan (“Arayik of Lavanda”), a longtime ago, to include them in RLP’s proportional list, and, in return, Madatyan and Hayrapetyan were to provide financial assistance to the party during the pre-election phase. According to same sources, the latter already had provided some money to RLP, by opening luxurious RLP offices in different administrative districts. According to that information, they told Baghdasaryan they no longer will provide financial assistance to RLP, and this put Baghdasaryan in a very awkward situation,” 168 Zham writes.
