YEREVAN. – Armenian Minster of Defense, Seyran Ohanyan, on Tuesday received John Heffern, the newly appointed US Ambassador to Armenia, and familiarized him with the ongoing reforms in Armenian Armed Forces. 

Ohanyan congratulated Ambassador Heffern on his appointment, noting confidence that the diplomat would use his vast experience to serve toward Armenian-American relations, MOD Press Service informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.  

The Minister briefly informed the Ambassador on the steps taken toward implementing results of the military review of Armenia’s defense. 

In his turn, Ambassador Heffern noted that the American side appreciates the assistance which Armenia’s armed forces provided, and still provide, during peacekeeping missions in Afghanistan, Kosovo, and Iraq. He also welcomed the course of reforms in Armenia’s armed forces, and stated that the American side is ready to provide necessary support and to develop relations with Armenia, both in bilateral format and within the circles of UN, NATO, and other international organizations.
