YEREVAN.- Armenia’s Parliament Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan believes that his resignation proved devotion to the president of the country, he said in an interview with ArmNews television commenting on his resignation.

Hovik Abrahamyan stressed that he had an opportunity preserve the office of Speaker at the same time acting as the head of election headquarters of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia.

“However, I find it appropriate to leave the post in order to fully focus on the work of headquarters. I did not want it to become a subject for a debate saying the Speaker of Armenian Parliament, as a member of the executive body of the party, also directs the staff,” he emphasized.

“I have proved my loyalty to the President, the Republican Party. I have proved that no position keeps me in the party. I believe that to be the head of election headquarters and succeed it’s more than being a Speaker of the Parliament,” Abrahamyan added.

Asked about series of dismissals of the Armenian officials, Speaker said his resignation has no link to others.
